Rachel Laitala
Senior Account Supervisor

What is your role here?
I am a Senior Account Supervisor working on a range of accounts from cardiovascular disease to oncology. I work closely with Katie overseeing the account teams’ activities, including writing, research, media relations, strategy development and spokesperson management, as well as serve as the day-to-day client contact on most accounts.

How long have you been at SENSEI?
January 2004.

What is your background?
I graduated from college in 2002, and started working at a fairly large public relations firm under the vice president of media where we managed publicity for the firm’s client roster. I then moved to a smaller public relations firm working in fashion and luxury products. I thought it would be exciting and entertaining, but it turned out not to be what I expected. The opportunity at SENSEI kind of fell into my lap and I was surprised to learn how much I loved healthcare communications.

Do you feel like this is the right environment for you?
Definitely. SENSEI is great because I get to work with a lot of smart, fun and interesting people from whom I can learn so much. I think the people that you work with makes a huge difference wherever you are working.

What is your favorite thing about what you do?
I have a particular passion for media relations. I enjoy speaking with reporters and helping them craft their stories. Seeing the final product produces a great feeling of accomplishment and really helps our clients’ bottom lines.

Do you have a role model?
My mom. She's the strongest and most gracious person I know. Through the years we’ve done a lot of volunteer work together which had taken us from teaching at inner city schools, working with orphans in Russia and helping improvised families in Peru. Her conviction for giving back is one of the things I admire most about her.

What is your favorite thing about yourself?
I’m very organized. When working in an industry that can be very fast paced and frantic it helps having organization skills that keep you and your teams on track.

What three things couldn't you live without?
My family, air conditioning in the summer and vacations.
