Rachel Laitala
Account Supervisor

What is your role here?
I am an Account Supervisor working on our aspirin account, an allergy diagnostic account and a cardiovascular nursing organization account.

How long have you been at SENSEI?
Since January 2004.

What is your background?
I graduated from college in 2002, and I started working at a fairly large public relations firm, working with the vice president of media. We did media relations and publicity for the entire client roster. Then I moved over to a smaller public relations firm and worked in fashion. It turned out to be nothing at all like I thought it would be. I got really frustrated. Then this fell into my lap. I love it.

Do you feel like this is the right environment for you?
Definitely. I see myself doing this for a long time. SENSEI is really great because I get to work with a lot of really amazing people, who are all fun and interesting, and from whom I can learn so much. I think the people that you work with makes a huge difference wherever you are working.

What is your favorite thing about what you do?
I like the media aspect. I enjoy speaking with reporters and trying to get as much publicity or visibility for our clients as possible, especially for smaller accounts because it makes such a huge difference to their business and it's not something they are used to getting.

Do you have a role model?
My mom. She's one of the strongest people and so fun and caring and probably the most selfless person I know. When I was in high school, I did a lot of volunteer work with her. We went to Moscow, Russia and brought over necessities and essentials to kids in several orphanages. After we went, we started a program for the children to come and live with host families, hoping that some of them would be adopted. About five or six of them got adopted. When we went to Lima, Peru, we worked with teenage boys who were abandoned, and we helped them get basic skills to work and re-enter society.

What is your favorite thing about yourself?
I take things in stride and tend to be pretty laid back. I don't tend to get worked up very easily. I generally have a good time.

What three things couldn't you live without?
My family, air conditioning in the summer and vacations.
