Catherine Collins
Senior Account Executive

How long have you worked at SENSEI?
Since February 2003.

What is your role at SENSEI?
I'm a senior account executive, managing day-to-day activities on several accounts, working primarily with media and writing materials. I work on two oncology projects, one in ovarian cancer and the other in leukemia. I also work on an account for an allergy diagnostic tool.

What's your favorite part of your job?
I really love working with the patients on the oncology business. I love getting their stories and being able to translate that for our clients and the media. Is telling their story helpful for the patients? Absolutely. A lot of patients want to get more involved in advocacy work and working through the media is a great way to build awareness around certain diseases and treatments. With oncology and especially for women, the media gives them a voice that they haven't had before.

How long have you been in healthcare communications?
I have been in healthcare since 1997; however this is my first communications job. I worked in cancer centers, research organizations and non-profits: a broad range of different areas. I also received a masters in public health (MPH).

When you were a kid, did you know what you wanted to be?
I was always interested in healthcare, though at one point I wanted to be a fighter pilot. I was all over the place when I was kid -- doing anything risky -- I was always jumping off things. I was constantly breaking my arms, so I was constantly in the healthcare arena and was enamored by people who were able to fix me. It was so cool to see people actually being able to help and make a difference that way.

What is your favorite thing about yourself?
My endurance, physically and mentally.

Do you have a personal motto?
Don't be a wimp. My dad would take me on Boy Scout trips because he was a Boy Scout leader and he would say, "You're a girl, you can do this just as well or better than the boys. Don't ever let them see you as a wimp. You can do it." I say that to myself with anything hard that I'm doing, it goes back to the endurance thing.

What are the three things you can't live without?
My music, clean sheets and a sense of humor.
